Aligners

Envision Clear Aligners

Aligner treatment has gained popularity over the last several years. There are many companies that can move teeth with a series of aligner trays instead of traditional brackets and wires. Our office, however, has taken this process to a whole new level. Other Orthodontists use outside labs and technicians to design your aligners and decide your teeth’ movements, often taking days or even weeks to get back.

At Douglas N. Smith Orthodontics, the movements are performed by Dr. Doug. This hands-on approach gives us better control of the entire process from start to finish. We are extremely proud to be able to scan your teeth, digitally move your dentition, print the models, and fabricate your customized aligners right in the office!

Direct-to-Print Aligners

Our Direct-to-Print aligners are custom-designed using the latest 3D technology to ensure precise, comfortable treatment.

Braces

Metal

At Douglas N. Smith Orthodontics, we utilize a variety of different braces to ensure we find the treatment option best suited to your needs.

Even though there are many types of braces, traditional braces are still the most popular option. These braces use stainless steel brackets and archwires to move your teeth into their proper position.

Braces

Ceramic

Ceramic braces are a subtle and effective way to straighten teeth. These braces use transparent or tooth-colored brackets, making them popular for those seeking a more discreet orthodontic treatment.

Combination Treatment

We make our Envision aligners on site in Meadville which provides more flexibility to use aligners with braces. Depending on our patient’s unique issues, we may be able to treat the upper arch with aligners and the lower arch with traditional brackets. Your condition may warrant starting with brackets and finishing with Envision aligners or starting with Envision aligners and finishing with brackets.

It is also possible to have brackets on several teeth that may be more misaligned while simultaneously treating the remaining dentition with Envision Aligners. The possibilities are only limited by creativity! Rest assured, we’ll thoroughly assess your situation and work diligently to find the perfect treatment combination for your needs.

All Ages

Early Treatment

Sometimes we need to correct an orthodontic problem early to avoid damage to your child’s teeth or sometimes we need to start treatment to alter the future treatment plan, making later treatment less complicated and shorter. Also, sometimes we may simply want early treatment to correct a cosmetic issue that will enhance a growing child’s happiness and confidence.

The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) recommends that children visit an orthodontist as soon as their dentist notices that there might be a problem or around seven years old. We may not have to do anything at this age other than monitor the child’s mouth. However, if we continue to watch your child, we can start treatment right away if something arises.

All Ages

Adult Treatment

No matter your age, you deserve a smile that gives you confidence. Braces are not just for children anymore! At Smith Orthodontics, we work hard to give you the smile you’ve always wanted. We offer several different treatments that can be effective no matter what your age. More and more orthodontic treatments are becoming available to give adults the smile they want.

Orthodontic treatments are not just for your smile. Fixing your teeth can also dramatically change your oral health. When you have crooked teeth or a malocclusion (uneven bite), you may be prone to oral health problems such as gum disease and tartar buildup. We’ll work together to find the best treatment option for you so you can have the beautiful, bright smile you deserve.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts, often associated with snoring. The most common type of apnea is Obstructive Sleep Apnea, in which the throat muscles physically obstruct the airway.

In collaboration with your physician, we can provide you with an appliance to advance the lower jaw while sleeping to help reduce or eliminate the obstruction.

TMD/TMJ

Some people experience noises or pain emanating from their jaw joints. There are many causes for this, many of which are not orthodontic. However, a common reason is clenching or grinding teeth together. This may occur with or without a malocclusion (bad bite).

Treatment typically includes a customized TMD/TMJ splint to alleviate the clenching or grinding habit. Sometimes brackets or aligners are also used to correct alignment or malocclusion to help with symptoms.
